Celebrate Dory Days Festival with Lake Pasture Campground!
The third weekend in July is the highlight of the summer in Pacific City. Why, you ask? Because it’s the annual Dory Days Festival! This fun-filled weekend is a designated Oregon Heritage event that celebrates the unique fishing fleet made up of dory boats.
What’s a Dory Boat?
Dory boats are flat-bottomed wooden boats used for recreation and commercial fishing. They launch and land right on the beach so if you see one coming to shore, stay clear! Our family has fished right out of Pacific City and Tierra del Mar for generations, and we love joining the parade every year. If you see us during the parade, yell out and we’ll throw candy your way. Our boat was built in the 70s so prepare for a Scooby Doo themed float!
Tips for Enjoying the Festival
1. Get There Early: Parking is limited in Pacific City, especially during the event. Arrive early, grab a coffee, and take a leisurely stroll while waiting for the parade to start at 11 AM. Traffic will get a little hectic, so hang out until it clears. Our favorite coffee stops are Stimulus Cafe, Cold Water Coffee and Grateful Bread.
2. Explore the Artisan’s Market: Located near Chester’s Market, this area features around 15 artisan vendors and a dory display. Check out the Pacific City Library Thrift Shop for some gently used treasures, or explore Lucky Beach Boutique, Fiddlesticks, Pacific Coast Candy, and Ritual further down the street.
Best Spots to Enjoy the Parade
Parade Staging Area: Near Bob Straub State Park at the County Boat Launch. It's chaotic but perfect for seeing each entry up close. Parade awards are announced at 10:45 AM.
The Bridge: Offers a view of the Nestucca River and the parade cruising through. Pacific Avenue will be closed, so no need to worry about traffic.
Corner by the Gas Station: Announcers here provide commentary on each entry, making it a great spot for laughs and learning about the participants.
Artisan Market: For a relaxed view, sit on the grass here. Plus, you'll be in the prime position for some shopping!
